About us

Portland River Valley Garden Club Since 1959; logo shows a purple aster, a butterfly and a bee.

We are based in Portland, Connecticut.

We are action-oriented and love to garden.

Roll up your sleeves if you hang out with us. Several of our members are Master Gardeners, and members of our club maintain many garden beds in Portland. (Some are in partnership with The Portland Garden Club - yes, our town has two clubs!)

We are civic-minded and love to help.

We host various community service events throughout the year, including making holiday wreaths for our town's buildings and creating festive centerpieces for recipients of Food Bank holiday dinners.

We are motivated and love to learn.

Our main fundraiser of the year is the Garden Clubs of Portland Plant Sale. Taking place the weekend after Mother's Day, we sell plants we have raised either by seed or in our gardens. The two-hour long sale attracts plant aficionados and bargain hunters, and each year promises a unique selection sold by our club or the Portland Garden Club. Funds raised from this plant sale go to help pay for our programs and materials for civic activities for the year.
