Pollinator Garden receives accolades from Federated Garden Clubs of CT

Certificate reads: "The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc. - Conservation - Club Certificate of Achievement - presented to the Portland River Valley Garden Club. For creating a Pollinator Garden along a section of the Portland Air Line Trail using drought-tolerant native plants. October 25, 2023. Signed by president Karin C. Ohr Pyskaty.
The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc. "Conservation - Club Certificate of Achievement" was awarded to the Portland River Valley Garden Club for creating a Pollinator Garden along a section of the Portland Air Line Trail using drought-tolerant native plants.

We are so happy to share that our Pollinator Garden at the Air Line Trail has won a conservation certificate from The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut!

"We are so proud of this award after all the work we put into the garden to share our mission with Portland. I would love to continue this effort in other areas around town," said Club President Amy Jahnke.

Our pollinator garden is an official part of the Pollinator Pathway. The 10x15 foot growing area was completed in various stages throughout 2022, with an official planting of drought-tolerant native plants on Sept. 24, 2022. (You can read more about how the garden came together with the help of the Portland Air Line Trail Committee here.)

Coming in 2024, we are planning to work toward our goal of making the space an educational garden for the community. We also can’t wait to see how much our plants will grow this coming growing season, since they did so well in 2023.
