The Great Portland Scarecrow Contest Comes to the Portland Fair!

The Portland River Valley Garden Club is sponsoring The Great Portland Scarecrow Contest at this year’s Portland Fair!

Can you create Portland’s favorite scarecrow?

Whether your scarecrow is funny, spooky, whimsical, patriotic, harvest-themed, or completely one-of-a-kind, we want to see your creativity! Visitors to the Portland Fair will have the chance to vote for their favorite scarecrow, with cash prizes going to the top three entries.

🏆 1st Place: $100
🥈 2nd Place: $50
🥉 3rd Place: $25

Gather your straw, flannel, overalls, and imagination, then bring your best scarecrow to the fair!

Important Dates

Scarecrow Drop-Off:
Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 5–7 p.m.

Scarecrow Pickup:
Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Scarecrows must be able to stand on their own or be securely anchored to the ground.
